Using MOSS For Our Website
Many times, I hear hear that Microsoft's Office SharePoint Server is not exactly cross-browser friendly.  While it may seem that way when using the OOTB functionality, some slight modifications to your public site can change your perceptions.
The Kid writes, "I have recently been working on a number of public MOSS websites, all of which need to be accessible. Making websites accessible with MOSS poses a number of problems, but none of them are that big."
In this article, he gives a great step-by-step guide to stripping the Microsoft proprietary controls and replacing them with more browser-friendly publisher controls and ASP.Net controls.

The reality is, with a few slight modifications, a MOSS public-facing website can be made accessible.
Why We Went Gold
Oftentimes when visiting a website, you will see the term Microsoft Gold Certified Partner.  Well, what exactly is a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner?

Recently, PVI Consultants became Gold-certified.  The entire process was a bit intense, to say the least.  Microsoft uses a point-based system that rewards points for competencies, application development, and customer satisfaction.

The process:
  • Submit 10 of our Microsoft-certified employees for peer review.
  • Present our proprietary .NET-based product-launching software for code scrutiniy and verification.
  • Endure a seemingly interminable amount of time while our clients filled out their surveys (Thanks to all of our great customers by the way.  We couldn't have done it without you!)

After a few days, bingo!  Gold-certified!  So great!  What does it mean?

Well it means that:

  • We get national and international recognition as a enterprise software deployment specialist.
  • We get access to practically every piece of enterprise software that Microsoft has on the market (believe me that's tons of software).
  • We get access to thousands of software tools, emulators, and betas.
  • We get to put a pretty a logo on our site.
  • We get a smug sense of satisfaction.

All in all, a worthy venture.  We can now number ourselves with the very best! (End of shameless plug)
